Originally established in 1999 to facilitate the global recognition of laboratory testing and calibration services, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) Standard ISO 17025 establishes the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This is the principal internationally recognised quality assurance scheme for testing and calibration laboratories worldwide. Which allows a laboratory to be accredited to carry out specific testing or calibration services.
A new revision of ISO 17025 was in adopted in November 2017, and all currently accredited laboratories are required to transition to the revised version by November 2019.
Achieving and maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation is a significant undertaking which requires a major investment in time, resources and specialised skills.
